To me, shadows are as interesting as light. The negative space created in the absence of light present wonderful opportunities to create pattern, highlight texture, emphasize depth and enhance contrast. Shadow is a vital tool in creating interesting spaces, but typically plays second fiddle to light itself. That's why the work of Kumi Yamashita makes me happy - she makes some beautiful shadows!
